FEATURES

DESCRIPTIONS and BENEFITS

Distributed virtual switching Create a virtual platform that extends into the network infrastructure without compromising security or access and allows for virtual machines to be located anywhere within the network. Distributed virtual switching, included in all editions of XenServer, allows for a network fabric that administrators can utilize to build private, public or hybrid cloud computing models.
Dynamic workload balancing Reduce server sprawl and optimize power utilization through automated workload placement based on performance and administrator defined thresholds. Included in Enterprise and Platinum editions, Dynamic Workload Balancing improves system utilization and increases application performance by automatically balancing new and existing virtual machines within a resource pool.
High availability All premium editions of XenServer provide for automatic failover and restart of virtual machines. This feature helps to reduce downtime of critical business services, improve application service levels and virtually eliminate the need for planned downtime.
Memory optimization By sharing unused server memory between VMs, memory over-commit reduces hardware costs, allows for a greater number of VMs per server host and improves application performance. This feature is included in all editions of XenServer.
VM protection and recovery Allows administrators to create policies to automatically take scheduled VM snapshots and to archive the images to a specified storage location. Included in the Platinum Edition, VMPR is used to protect virtual machines from data loss by taking snapshots of VMs and backing-up the data to a secure storage location.
Web self-service Allows administrators to manage access and rights to individual VMs and for users to manage the day-to-day operations of their assigned virtual machines. Web self-service is included in the Enterprise and Platinum editions. Using the basic web interface, administrators can grant access and management rights for specific virtual machines to specific end-users.
